ARSON ATTACK AT DERRY SCHOOL

Locals in Gobnascale have called it an ‘attack on the community’

Firefighters tackled a blaze at Immaculate Conception College (formerly St Brecan’s) early this morning after a suspected arson attack occurred.

The gym hall at the former school, which closed in June last year, was engulfed in flames as up to 25 firefighters attended the scene at around 5am.

Despite demolition work beginning in May, this is just the latest report in a long list of incidents of anti-social behaviour on the site of the old school.

Police are treating the incident as deliberate and an investigation is now underway.
